Examine the climograph for some major North American biomes. Which two factors influence the distribution of organisms, as shown in this climograph?

Answer :

Average annual temperature and precipitation. Low latitudes near the equator experience high temperatures, whereas low latitudes near the poles experience low temperatures.

The reason for this is that the equator receives more direct sunlight. The intensity of light (and heat energy) per unit of area is decreased near the poles due to the angle at which sunlight strikes them. Altitude also causes a reduction in temperature. Since the atmosphere is thinner and less dense at high altitudes, less solar heat is trapped there. Similar biomes can be found on mountains even at low latitudes because temperatures decrease with altitude in addition to with latitude. As a general rule, an ascent of 1,000 feet (approximately 300 m) corresponds to a journey north of around 600 miles in terms of altered flora and fauna (966 km).
